LagtimeTime has always been a fascinating thing to me, how we perceive it as a culture, as communities and as individuals. Most, in fact almost all, people think of time as linear, moving steadily from 1 to 2 to 3, seconds, minutes, hours, days. When we measure time, the seconds go from 1 to 2. Blip. Just like that they slip by. I tend to think of time as a fluid thing and not necessarily linear, but for you what I am trying to measure visually is what exists between 1 and 2. This series began while watching TV over the internet. Occasionally the connection or the computer memory would lag, stopping the moving image in a blur. Not really in one frame or the next, but inbetween. I started shooting these inbetween moments on my laptop with my dSLR camera, capturing time in the abstract. What would have been an inconvenience to anyone else watching, became an art project for me. Series began in late 2007. |
